Predictions for 2013 in Vedic Astrology

Since the world did not come to an end today, let’s take a glance as to what the future may bring. We have some major planetary movements happening. Here is a sampling of predictions for 2013 in Vedic astrology.

The big shift happening momentarily is that the nodes, Rahu and Ketu, are changing signs on the 23^rd. (This are differing methods of calculating the placement of the nodes, so you may read varying dates elsewhere.)  Since the nodes move backwards, Rahu is moving out of its exaltation sign in Scorpio and into Libra. Ketu moves out of it debilitation sign in Taurus and into Aries. Rahu joins an exalted Saturn and Ketu leaves its shared home with Jupiter. The nodes stay in a sign for 1.5 years.

There is a Sanskrit saying, “Rahu vat Shani, Ketu vat Mangal.” Rahu acts like Saturn and Ketu acts like Mars. The nodes also take on the flavor of planets influencing them or in whose nakshatra (constellation) they occupy. 

We have two powerful natural malefics posited in Libra. This can bring about great transformation, but at a price. Saturn is the planet of discipline, responsibility, toil and obstruction. Rahu is the shadow planet of desire, ambition, and questing. Your experience of Saturn is amplified with a focus on achievement by creative means, if necessary. Ketu has similar qualities to Rahu, but can take on a more spiritual dimension, while Rahu engages in the outer world primarily.

Vedic astrology, or Jyotish, uses the sidereal zodiac rather than the tropical zodiac used in Western astrology. Hence, everything in your Jyotish chart shifts back approximately 24 degrees. Taurus rising people can experience great popularity and success in working with the public the first half of the year. Spiritual retreats can be very rejuvenating for you. Setting healthy dietary habits helps stabilize your indulgent tendencies for the 2013.

Those with a Gemini ascendant can enjoy traveling abroad the first half of the year. 2013 brings the opportunity to review and augment the relationships with the children in your life. It’s also a time when you can serve as a mentor to others.

Cancer ascendants powerfully feel the desire to change their living situation, by physically moving, remodeling, or redecorating. There is the striving for balance between home and work life. Finding what truly makes you happy is a major theme in 2013.

Leo lagnas can have an up and down relationship with siblings in 2013. It provides the opportunity to discover how you can best support each other. You may be drawn to spending more time with spiritual teachers in the new year.

Virgo rising signs should be very mindful of their speech and its impact on others. There is the need to pay extra careful attention to your investments in 2013. You may find yourself drawn to the study of ancient subjects.

Libra ascendants will find 2013 full of change, often unexpected.  You will be driven to alter your regular patterns and ideals and adopt new ways of being in the world. Large scale ambitions and goals take center stage as you chart your course for the coming year.
